A Regional event at West Haigh & New Park Springs

A regional orienteering event in the beautiful woodland and nature reserve of West Haigh and New Springs. Experienced orienteers will enjoyable the runnable terrain and interesting contour detail while newcomers and juniors are well catered for with the extensive path network. There are a range of courses to suit everyone from white to black, including a medium difficulty 8km purple course for runners.
Parking will be on quiet industrial estate roads signed from SE 408083, roundabout south of Grimethorpe on the A6195. No parking fee.
West Haigh is sloping, runnable beech and birch woodland with depressions and pits. All courses except White and Yellow visit this area. New Park Springs is a nature reserve planted on the old Grimethorpe Colliery tip. It is a mixture of hilly, rough and runnable open with fairly new planting which is extensively runnable. It makes a valuable addition to the previous West Haigh and Howell map. The extension to the map and new assembly area at the west of the map has provided new course planning options. White and Yellow are almost entirely on New Park Springs with much on strong paths in open areas.

Registration is 50-300m from parking with the finish adjacent. The start is approx 1km from parking.

Welcome in the car park but not on courses.
Competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety. The area is well used by the general public. Dog walkers. mountain bikers, horse riders and quad bikes may be encountered – please give them a wide berth.

SYO Photography Policy
Please be aware that photography is permitted at all our events by spectators and parents though not anywhere where children may be changing e.g. club tent, car park, toilets, changing areas. Whilst the sharing of images taken at our events is not forbidden, please do think about how and where you share them and do not display children's names with the image.
Any parents not wishing their children to be photographed should inform the Event Organiser and a wristband will be issued. Photographers should not take photos of any child wearing a wristband and any that are accidently taken should be deleted. SYO will not share photos of children on websites, social media, posters, in the press and other publications unless we have parental permission.
If you have any concerns regarding inappropriate or intrusive photography please report them to an Event Official.
