First of all huge thanks go to those who officiated - Charles Hird who planned your courses and Jim Elder who was controller. I ran the Green course and despite the warnings concerning brambles saw some but nothing man-eating and was able to run (or what I laughingly call 'run' these days) straight (when it was downhill!). So thank you Charles for avoiding the worst of the brambles.
Another a big thank you goes to Peter Gorvett who managed the SI on the day - a job that often goes unrecognised.
Also thanks to the army of volunteer helpers who made the organiser's job very easy. Many were helping at a level C event for the first time. I hope you enjoyed the experience.
And thank you to all who came along to enjoy a cold but dry day in a lovely little wood.
Ok- the parking! Under normal circumstances there is plenty of room at Thomas Rotherham College even when we share the parking with users of the Sports Centre and the 5 a side footballers. Today we found out at 9.30 am that the right hand at the college had given permission for a rugby match that should have been played in Leeds to be played at the college because the pitch in Leeds was waterlogged. The right hand only informed the left hand at the last minute and so there was very little we could do.
I understand that the orienteers were pretty phlegmatic about the situation but the footballers and rugby players were less tolerant when they informed the parking team that they were about to kick off in five minutes.
I promise Karl Marshall and Chris Lambert, who had to bear the brunt of any complaints, that car parking isn't normally that fraught.

As described in the final details (but not in flyer), there is going to be a string course.
The YHOA Superleague Prize Giving will be held at 11:45, so people can run before or after it.
Canklow Woods is a sloping area with a mixture of deciduous woodland, open and semi-open. All along the top of the slope are the remains of stone workings which provide good contour detail. The area is criss-crossed by a complex path network.
It is on the edge of Rotherham and very accessible, with the southern boundary of the area being less than a kilometre from junction 33 on the M1.

Safety & risk
A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. If a competitor has a pre-existing medical condition that they think should be declared, please complete a medical form at enquiries. The sealed envelope will only be opened in an emergency.
SYO has an agreed policy on the taking of photographs at events, based on national guidance. This provides a sensible balance between the benefits and risks associated with the taking and use of images. If you are unsure about acceptable practice, please speak to the event organiser. Read our photography policy.
