Firstly, I would like to congratulate Aidan on his well-planned courses which, from what I heard at the Finish and Download, certainly challenged people by their technical difficulty. Ecclesall Woods seems to surprise people by how easy it is to make mistakes as you really need to concentrate all the time, not least because the paths - which are all there - are quite faint with the fallen leaves partially covering them.
I think Yellow and Orange were a surprise to some people as they were planned to the correct technical standard and not just longer versions of the White course.
I do apologise to those who were face by an uphill leg and then downhill slide just before the finish - we now realise that could have been better.
The use of a lot of controls was designed to give more route choice and, in particular, to avoid long path runs. Not everyone likes butterfly loops but they did mean we could avoid second maps as there isn't much scope for long legs in Ecclesall Woods.
So, I hope you all enjoyed the great courses and fine weather we laid on for you. Thanks also to Colin Smith and Viv (my wife) for their help and to Brian Shaw and his helpers for the organisation of the event.

Ecclesall Woods comprises over 100 hectares (300 acres) of mature deciduous woodland of variable runnability and is notable for a large number of thickets. The gently sloping land is divided by two roads and a network of bridleways, footpaths, streams and ditches. Some of the minor paths have become overgrown or are difficult to discern when covered by autumn leaves.More details about Ecclesall Woods...
