What is Orienteering?

Orienteering is a challenging outdoor adventure sport. The aim is to navigate between control points marked on an orienteering map and decide the best route to complete the course in the quickest time.

It does not matter how young, old or fit you are as you can choose the course that's right for you and run, jog or walk it at your own pace. It is excellent for adults wanting to shape up, add some excitement and mental challenge to their running and meet new friends. It is also ideal for families as everyone can take part at the level that's right for them and it allows children to develop independence, confidence and decision making skills.

Stage Win for Aidan Smith in O-Ringen

Sunday, 03 August 2008 01:00

Aiden wins Stage 3!Aidan Smith finished third place overall in the M13 category at the Swedish 5 Days in the mountainous terrain of Salen. His week of strong results included a stage win on Day 3 and a second place on Day 4. The junior classes at the O Ringen are tightly contested and Aidan fought off some tough competition to come in third overall after a chasing start on the final day.

Other good SYO results included a 2nd place for Pete Gorvett on Day 4, his training on the fells no doubt paying off on a challenging downhill course after taking a chair lift up to start above the tree line.
