What is Orienteering?

Orienteering is a challenging outdoor adventure sport. The aim is to navigate between control points marked on an orienteering map and decide the best route to complete the course in the quickest time.

It does not matter how young, old or fit you are as you can choose the course that's right for you and run, jog or walk it at your own pace. It is excellent for adults wanting to shape up, add some excitement and mental challenge to their running and meet new friends. It is also ideal for families as everyone can take part at the level that's right for them and it allows children to develop independence, confidence and decision making skills.

a win in the super-vets class.

SYO members Nick Barrable and Peter Gorvett won the Men's Open and Super Vet races in the City of London Orienteering event. Meanwhile Martin Ward won the Men's Vet race running for Sheffield club SPOOK. The races were run around the quiet Saturday morning streets of the square mile, involving some particularly complex navigation around the multi-level Barbican Centre. Bill Hanley took second place in the men's Super Vet, and Clare Sutherland was SYO's best placed woman, finishing 18th in the Open race.

Yvette Baker Trophy heats

Tuesday, 23 September 2008 01:00
With some juniors away due to other commitments we only just had enough to make a full team of 9. Despite that, some good performances led us to second place, just 5 points behind Airienteers, including first place positions for Cari Littler, Louise Adams, Katherine Hall and Aiden Sahni.
