SYO wins Compass Sport Cup match at Sherwood Pines 30th March 2009, Martin
A good turn-out of over 80 SYO members ensured that we won the qualifying round of the Compass Sport Cup match held yesterday at Sherwood Pines. On several courses SYO filled the top three or four places, so despite missing a few of our top elites, in the end we won by over 100 points. Well done everyone, especially course winners Dave Sprot, Jenny Johnson, Tim Tett, Peter Gorvett, Simon Bradbury and Aidan Smith! We now get to defend the Cup in the Final, which will be held on 18th October at Fineshade in Leicestershire. Put the date in your diary.

The third of the family training sessions was held today in conjunction with the SYO Bingham Park event. After a map walk in the glorious spring sunshine we set up base at the tennis courts and set off on loops and short courses. Later, some of the more energetic families went down to the start and took part in the event, completing the yellow course. Well done everyone. Details of next week’s venue will be on the website soon.

Excellent turnout at Wombwell Wood 8th March 2009
SYO's latest event was at Wombwell Wood, attracting around 250 people. Wombwell is a small but very nice woodland, and at this time of year if offers fast runnability. SYO member Matt Crane won the longest course (Brown, 8.1km) in 38 minutes. The shortest course (White, 1.1km)was successfully completed by 17 beginners and younger juniors.

The event courses were very quickly available on RouteGadget after the event - already over 70 runners have marked their route on, which helps everyone to see what routes others took, and improve their own navigational techniques. Routegadget here. |

Having covered the basics today, next week the training will move to Loxley Common to try out some courses and training on terrain.
