The event was a great success. The new amphitheatre made a great arena for the event and the Park Hill complex and excellent map and planning meant the courses were as challenging as the best urban orienteering. Even the scenery was excellent, surprising even long term SYO members with views and crocuses in the Cholera Monument Park and the vibrancy of Victoria Quays with its narrow boats and cafes. (Peter Gorvett - controller)
This event was part of the Yorkshire Urban League. The following courses will be used:: Long (Men's Open, Women's Open, Men's Vet), Medium (Women's Vet, Men's Supervet, Men's Ultravet) and Short (Junior Men, Junior Women, Supervet Women and Ultravet Women). Details about the Urban league can be found here: http://www.aire.org.uk/YUL/YHOA%20Yorkshire%20Urban%20League%202012.htm
The Sheffield Adventure Film Festival took place over the whole of this weekend. See http://www.shaff.co.uk/
Permanent Orienteering Courses
There are a number of permanent orienteering courses (POCs) throughout South Yorkshire which are available to try at your leisure for little or no cost. The table below lists all known POCs in South Yorkshire including details on how to obtain maps for the courses.
The South Yorkshire Schools Orienteering League aims to provide school pupils with the opportunity to learn and develop map-reading skills while improving their fitness in a fun, competitive and challenging sport. The league runs from September to June.
Coaching & Development
SYO has an active coaching and development programme with sessions that combine technique and physical training and are suitable for people of all ages, experience and ability. We are also looking to train members to become event volunteers.
